When is an HVAC issue a problem with your heating or cooling system, and when it is a problem with your ductwork? Here are three ways to know when you have faulty ductwork:
- Bad Indoor Air Quality: If you have leaky ductwork, you may notice significantly worse indoor air quality in your home. Dust mites, dirt, mold, and other allergens will contaminate your air, making it harder to breathe and aggravating allergies.
- Hot/Cold Spots: If your ducts are not sealed well, you could have uneven temperature control in your home. If there are certain spots in your house that are significantly warmer or cooler than they should be, you might have leaky ducts. Loosely sealed ducts allow lots of your conditioned air to escape into your attic, basement, or even your walls.
- High Utility Bills: If your energy bills spike, it may be because of bad ductwork. Up to 30% of the energy you pay for could be lost due to leaky ductwork. Your ducts could be old, poorly installed, or the incorrect size.
